Unleashing Creativity and Confidence: A Recap of Our First Public Speaking & Social Skills Group!
Today Saturday 3/1/2025, The RisingUP Foundation Youth Chapter hosted its very first Public Speaking & Social Skills Group at the McKinney Public Library—and what an incredible experience it was! From storytelling to debating, our participants showcased creativity, confidence, and quick thinking in ways that left us truly amazed.
The Power of Improvisation in Storytelling
One of the most exciting activities of the day was our three-partner storytelling challenge. Without any preparation, each trio had to build a story together on the spot, seamlessly picking up where the previous person left off. The results? Absolutely mind-blowing! The creativity that flowed from these spontaneous collaborations was nothing short of remarkable.
As each group presented their story, the energy in the room was electric. Some stories made us laugh, others surprised us with unexpected twists, and all of them demonstrated how storytelling can be a powerful tool for expression and connection. Even more impressive was the confidence that emerged on stage—some participants who initially seemed shy transformed into powerful storytellers, delivering their narratives with captivating stage presence. It was truly a moment of growth in action!
Debating with Passion and Perspective
Next, we moved on to an impromptu debate on a thought-provoking topic:
“Is it better to have one best friend or multiple best friends?”
No preparation, no scripts—just raw thoughts and passionate discussions. And wow, did our participants rise to the challenge! They dove into the topic with sharp reasoning, backing up their points with personal experiences and unique perspectives. What stood out the most was their ability to see both sides of the argument, demonstrating critical thinking and open-mindedness. It was inspiring to watch them defend their viewpoints while respecting differing opinions—a true display of social and communication skills at their best.
Building Skills, One Session at a Time
Through these activities, participants not only improved their public speaking skills but also built confidence, teamwork, and the ability to think on their feet. The feedback they received from peers was invaluable, creating an environment of support and encouragement.
We were thrilled to see participants like Warner, Sophia, Rashi, Sophie, Timothy, Owen, Richard, Jerry, Owen and Elina actively engaging, contributing insightful feedback, and pushing themselves outside their comfort zones. we are so proud of you guys!
And the best part? This is just the beginning!
